The Tiny Photos Behind The Luna Edit’s Vintage Lockets

A locket can be beautiful on its own. It becomes personal when somebody opens it and finds the face that matters to them inside.

That is the part of The Luna Edit’s work that Featherlings has quietly helped with for years. Kelcie finds and prepares the vintage lockets; I print the miniature photographs she uses to complete them. Together, thousands of tiny prints have made their way into lockets holding partners, children, parents, grandparents, friends and pets.

Meet Kelcie

Kelcie founded The Luna Edit in summer 2021. She was already a portrait photographer, so photographs, family and storytelling were part of her work before the first locket was sold.

Her love of vintage jewellery began with an antique ruby-and-diamond ring given to her after the birth of her daughter, Luna. The business took Luna’s name. Lockets became its focus after Kelcie found a Victorian heart locket with its original black-and-white photographs still inside.

Why every old locket is different

Vintage, antique and pre-loved lockets rarely have standard photograph openings. Two hearts can look nearly identical outside and still have different inner rims, inserts and usable spaces.

From one upload to a finished locket

Old jewellery, new photographs

The locket may already be decades old. The photograph inside might have been taken yesterday, restored from a family album or sent straight from somebody’s phone. The unused miniature prints go back with the finished piece, ready for another keepsake, purse or wallet.
