Bird’s Memorial Charm: Jewellery Made with Chicken Ashes and a Feather

Bird was a much-loved chicken whose family wanted to preserve something personal in her memory.

I was entrusted with a small amount of Bird’s ashes and one of her pale feathers. These were carefully incorporated into a sterling silver heart charm, creating a unique piece of chicken memorial jewellery for her owner.

Preserving Bird’s ashes and feather

Bird’s charm has a warm amber centre chosen to complement the natural colour of her feather. Small pieces of her ashes remain visible inside the heart, while delicate feather fibres form fine, flowing patterns beneath the surface.

Every part of the charm was arranged by hand. The finished piece physically holds part of her, preserved inside a wearable sterling silver charm.

The charm was intended as a birthday present, so I upgraded the delivery to help it arrive in time.

After receiving it, Bird’s family wrote:

“Our daughter loved and was very touched by her charm. So thank you again.”

Memorial jewellery for chickens and other birds

Pet memorial jewellery is not limited to dogs, cats and horses. Chickens, parrots and other birds can become deeply loved members of a family, each with their own personality and place in the home.

Feathers can often be incorporated alongside ashes, creating a memorial that preserves two tangible connections to a much-missed bird. Because every feather and portion of ashes is different, each completed piece is entirely individual.

What can be included in bird memorial jewellery?

Depending on the jewellery design, a memorial piece can potentially include:

• A small amount of cremation ashes

• Fine sections of a feather

• Fur or hair from another animal

• A chosen background colour

• Personal engraving

Only a small quantity is required. Any ashes or feather not used in the finished jewellery are treated respectfully and returned.

Bird’s engraved ashes heart charm is small enough to be worn on a bracelet, but it carries an irreplaceable connection to a very special companion.
