How to Choose a Personalised Photo Charm

The quality and crop of the original photograph have a direct effect on how a finished photo charm looks.

I prepare each customer’s photograph and personalise their jewellery in my Portsmouth workshop. A good result starts with the clearest original image you have, but I can usually help with cropping and minor clean-up.

1. Choose a photograph with a clear subject

Use the original image where possible rather than a screenshot downloaded from social media. A clear photograph with the subject separated from the background usually produces the strongest result.

Do not worry if the image needs cropping. I can often remove unnecessary background and position the important part of the photograph for the charm.

2. Check how the image will be personalised

Photo jewellery can be created in different ways. Some designs use engraving, while others preserve a printed image beneath a protective finish. Read the individual product description so you know what appearance to expect.

3. Choose the right metal and design

Many Featherlings designs are made in 925 sterling silver. The best shape depends on the photograph: portraits often suit oval or heart designs, while wider group photographs may need a round or rectangular area.

4. Confirm bracelet compatibility

Many Featherlings charms fit popular European-style charm bracelets, but not every personalised product is a bracelet charm. Check the compatibility stated on the product page before ordering.

5. Allow for personalisation time

Often, yes. Results depend on the amount of visible detail, but minor marks, faded colour and distracting backgrounds can frequently be improved during preparation.
